"Clint has played a large role in the success we have experienced with my son Brennan finding the right college.  Although as a mom, I had a somewhat good idea of how I could help the process along for my son, Clint was amazing in helping us with the organization process.  Every visit he would go through checklists with my son and state exactly what he needed to do that month.  Clint has a good way of relating to a teen-aged boy – he did his best to make the college search fun and interesting, especially when it was becoming tedious.  He even helped Brennan fill out the applications, which was a relief to me, since I knew he had done this numerous times.

    Lastly, Clint is always available by phone or email when I need to ask him a question or bounce an idea off of him.  What a relief it has been to know if I receive a cryptic email from a college, that Clint is there to help us decipher and to encourage!  I would definitely recommend Clint to anyone who has a child ready to apply for college!"

Mr. Walters and I became acquainted at the South Orange County Chamber of Commerce newcomers meeting.  With common professions in education we had a lot to share. Clint immediately impressed me with his knowledge about career planning and college preparation. 

My son had become disillusioned with high school and asked if he could finish his senior year on independent study.  Benjamin was also expressing a desire to enlist in the Navy, with the goal of becoming a Marine Corpsman, but wasn’t sure the best route to take.  With many serious decisions to be considered, I thought Clint would be just the person to guide Benjamin in the right direction. 

My concerns were quickly put to rest after Benjamin’s first meeting with Clint.  Clint’s wit and ability to relate to Benjamin was amazing, and created a very warm working relationship between them.  Clint was able to communicate to Benjamin why completing his senior year at Tesoro would be very important.  They narrowed down the universities that offered the majors Benjamin was interested in, as well as ROTC training.  What Benjamin found especially helpful was the career testing which revealed his true inherent bent verses what was likely just a hobby or casual interest.

The summer before my son went off to college, I knew that he was going to need some expert help getting organized, filling out college apps, meeting deadlines, applying for scholarships, and writing those college essays.  I had tried to motivate him, but was always met with, “I’ll do it later Mom”.  Finally, I sought the help of Mr. Walters, the College and Career Specialist at Fountain Valley High School.  Having been a teacher at FVHS for years, I was familiar with the great work Mr. Walters had been doing coaching, motivating, and empowering the college- bound seniors.  Mr. Walters came to my home and met with me, but mostly, he worked directly with my son.  Having the guidance of a ”specialist” let my son know just how important the college application process and essays were.  He got serious real fast, knowing that Mr. Walters would soon be back.
